IAF and ISO have agreed on an implementation plan to ensure a smooth transition of acrredited certification to ISO 9001:2008, as summarized below:

• An ISO 9001:2008 certificate shall only be issued based on an initial, surveillance or re-assessment audit.
• As of November 15, 2009, no more certificates shall be issued against the ISO 9001:2000 standard.
• As of November 15, 2010, the ISO 9001:2000 certificates are no longer valid.
